Welcome to Cassiopeia98

10 November 2025: I added an October 2025 selfie of me on the about me page (😱), more rando photos of me throughout the years, and I added a drawing I did of the Eiffel Tower to the drawings page. I reduced scrolling on the about me page, and added a few new tidbits about me there. I'm slowly adding more of my Photoshop fanart to the artwork pages. I have a lot, and it's a process of going through old data CDs and DVDs to find my early work. And my birthday is coming up in 10 days from now, so I'm hoping my gift to myself is to get more added to the site.

When I was young, I was always doodling in notebooks (and textbooks), coloring, and even writing short stories about dolphins - the obsession of my youth (IYKYK). In 1998, I discovered Photoshop, and that opened up a whole new creative world for me. Since then, I’ve made fanart, touched up my own photography, and taught myself photo restoration and colorisation using scans of old family photos. I even figured out video editing and color grading so I could make fun fanvideos. And then there’s writing. I don’t have anything ready to share right now, but I left a spot for it here as motivation to get back into it.For me, creating has never been about perfection. Anyone who knows me will tell you I’m not a perfectionist (my graphic design instructors at uni definitely reminded me of that - gives side-eye). But honestly, I didn’t care. Art and creativity aren’t supposed to be perfect - and anyone who says otherwise is missing the point. For me, it’s about the process: experimenting, learning as I go, and sometimes asking for a little help (thanks, MèiMei - who was frequently my partner in creative crime). This site is a collection of my fanart, photography, videos, and (one day) writing. It’s a mix of me stumbling my way into a “style,” then breaking it apart and going in a whole new direction. Hopefully it gives you a little glimpse of who I am - and if you want the blunt version, you can always check out the Favourites section. Thanks for checking out my site!

I began using Photoshop in 1998 to create fanart for The X-Files. I'm self-taught on the software, and only took an online course in college because it was required for my degree and I couldn't get out of it.

Artwork: Timeless

The fanart published here is copyright ©Cassiopeia98 and may not be re-posted online in any form.In 2016, I had a "Three Seasons" rule where I refused to watch a new TV series unless it had three seasons (with a proper conclusion and/or had been renewed for a fourth season). I'd been burnt by one too many series I loved getting canceled (the most famous: Firefly, in 2002). So, when I saw trailers for Timeless during the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics I tried hard to not want to watch the series. But... that just was not going to happen. For starters, I love stories about time travel, and I love history (aside from foreign language classes, history was my favourite course in school). As soon as I could program my DVR (back in those days), I made sure that I wouldn't miss Timeless when it premiered, and that I'd keep the episodes saved. I was that confident that I would love this show, and I did. It isn't a flawless series. I can nitpick the crap out of it if I wanted to. But despite that, it is my favourite TV show. The original 26 episodes (I refuse to rewatch the "movie" Christmas episodes for reasons) had so much heart, and were so much fun. And of course, Timeless introduced me to my favourite fictional character of all-time: Garcia Flynn, and my favourite fictional relationship: Garcia Flynn/Lucy Preston (Garcy) - you'll notice that most of my fanart for Timeless features this pairing. If you've never watched the show, I recommend it (except for those Christmas episodes). I have no idea where it's streaming, but I know it can be bought on iTunes, Amazon, and YouTube.

I think it's still around, but back in the early 2000s, I was on there and really got into making those 100x100 icons. I made many more than what I've added to this page, but these are the ones that I liked best, and thought I'd share just because I like the nostalgia of seeing them again. You can save the icons and use them anywhere you'd like that takes icons as small as 100x100, if you'd like. I don't mind. I made them so others might use them.

Video

There once was a time when I wanted to pursue a career in video production. My interest was in direction, editing, or color grading. I took a class in college that had "digital video" in its description, but I didn't really learn much from the class. My sister and I basically took an old 1990s camcorder and skipped class (the teacher was ok with this) and taught ourselves how to write shooting scripts, set up shots, work with "actors" (well, one was an aspiring actor), wrangle animals, figure out how to do a "poor man's dolly" shot (once on ice skates), how to digitize it all and import it into Pinnacle (yeah, that's how long ago this was). And then the one time we crashed the entire college's server and prevented students and teachers from being able to check their emails, turn in online assignments, etc. My sister and I had the nickname "Trouble."Many years later, I got the itch to learn Adobe's Premiere Pro video editing software (with built-in color grading), and not knowing anything about how the software worked, I jumped in head first, and taught myself. The four videos below are, in my opinion, the four best fanvideos I made for the TV series Timeless from 2018 until 2024. You can also binge watch them on my unlisted playlist.

Writing

I used to write fanfiction for a small handful of TV shows. I don't really want to share those on this site since I'd like to move away from that genre. I have a ideas for an original piece that I'd like to work on one day. Not sure when that will happen, but if and when it does it might show up on this page. Or perhaps this page will be a sort of blog where I talk about (read: lament) about the writing process, or perhaps give you little excerpts of rough drafts or scenes that I've come up with.I took a creative writing class in college because I had an interest in wanting to learn about script writing. The course didn't cover that, and I didn't expect it to, but I was disappointed with the teacher when he sat me down after he read a rough draft of our final writing project, and he told me that because I was a woman that I had no business writing a male POV short story. That I needed to switch the POV to the female character. I don't remember what I said to him, but I didn't listen to his advice because it was the worst advice I'd ever heard. I turned in my male POV short story, my classmates got to read it, and critique it (without knowing who wrote it), and after that was done, everyone was surprised at how well I -a woman- had written the male perspective and voice. It was quite validating considering what that teacher had said to me a week earlier.I doubt that I still have that piece saved anywhere. Even if I did, I wouldn't share it here. We had a week and a half, maybe two weeks, to write it, which didn't give a lot of time to fully develop characters and a story. I felt like the final draft was rushed, but my classmates really liked it. And it was based on my real life experience of being pick-pocketed on the metro in Prague in 1998. Good times.

About Me

Earlier in my life I lived overseas in Saudi Arabia and had the opportunity to travel the world. As a result of being exposed to different cultures and people I developed a better understanding of the world outside of my comfort zone, and I embraced an open-mind towards different ideas and ways of thinking. I don't hold myself to traditional or conservative values, I never have and I doubt I ever will.I believe fully that people should think for themselves, and not go along with what anyone says because they are afraid to have an opinion of their own. I believe in being true and honest with yourself and others around you. Don't be a Bushwoolie (kudos if you actually understand that reference 🦄🌈 #IAmOld-ish).I do not like the words "tolerance" or "tolerate" because those words imply negativity. I prefer the words "acceptance" and "accept" because those words imply a positive attitude. I believe that if everyone in the world could learn acceptance of others that we, as a human race, would be headed towards a brighter future.TOLERATE = to put up with 🔵 ACCEPT = to receive willingly

Hobbies

  • Language Learning. If there's not a language learning book, or a book in another language sitting on my desk, then there is something seriously wrong with me. I've been learning languages on my own (and in class when I was in school) since I was 9 years old. Nowadays, I still use traditional "teach yourself" textbooks, but I also use AI for conversation practice, and as a tutor when I have a grammatical question that my textbooks don't explain well. It has been a life-changer for me when it comes to language learning.

  • Photoshop. I'm self-taught in Photoshop since 1998, and I use the software every single day. I create fanart for TV shows, movies, and celebrities that I enjoy. I do photo restorations, touch up my own photography. And if I'm feeling especially motivated, I'll even make GIFs.

  • Figure Skating. Back in the early 90s, my sister and I taught ourselves how to figure skate on an itty bitty driveway in Saudi Arabia - using roller skates, and VHS tapes that our grandma sent us which we watched and studied, and then applied to our roller skating to learn. It wasn't until 1995 that I got on the ice and had formal lessons. I'm a "lefty" skater, which means that I rotate my jumps and spins clockwise. From 2006 to 2010, I coached the sport, and had students ranging from age 2 to 70.

  • Photography. I've always had an "eye" for photography (I think I get this from my grandpa), and I even took an introduction to photography class in college. I haven't done a lot of it lately, but every now and then, if I'm out somewhere and a place speaks to me, I'll snap a few pictures.

  • Listening to Music. I cannot go a day without listening to music for at least a few hours. I never learned how to play any instrument, but my favourite instrument to listen to is the piano. I play my playlists and iPod really well, though. Haha.

  • Writing. I've been writing fanfic for various TV shows (mainly The X-Files and Timeless) since 1998. But before then, I wrote short stories about dolphins when I was a kid, and even took a creative writing class in college. I've been wanting to try my hand at original fiction, but that's a whole new monster compared to writing for established characters in TV and movies. In the late 90s through the 2000s, my sister and I actually wrote an online virtual series parody/spoof of The X-Files called "Fox & Rat" Virtual Series. It's slapstick humor, its first four seasons are so poorly written we advice everyone to NOT read them, and there are typos galore because we didn't care about that back then. Read it at your own risk. I promise, I'm a much better writer now.

Some of My Favourite Things

  • Timeless. It's not the best-written TV show of all time, but it has time travel and history, both of which I love, so of course this show was destined to be my favourite series. It also brought me my favourite fictional character of all time (Garcia Flynn), and favourite fictional relationship (Garcia Flynn/Lucy Preston) - even though it wasn't endgame.

A Playlist of Some of My Favourite Songs

I could list hundreds of songs that I consider my favourite songs on this site, but that would be a lot of scrolling (and there's already plenty of that going on). I've put together a playlist of music that I enjoy over on YouTube. Just click on the little embed below to listen, or click to open YouTube in its own browser (or app if you're on your phone), and check it out. I have a wide variety of music, and I think if you're not logged into your YouTube it will cut you off after 200 songs, there's more than that, and I add more when I hear a song that isn't included, or hear a new song that I love. Enjoy.

Ok, ok... My Top 5 Favourite Songs (as of 09 November 2025):

  • The Unforgiven (Metallica)

  • Into My Arms (Nick Cave)

  • This Finger's For You (Filter)

  • Be My Last (Utada Hikaru)

  • Soran Bushi (Maïa Barouh)

That Time In 2018 When Goran Višnjić DM'd Me A Happy Birthday Video Message...

I was once deep in the Timeless fandom, and somehow Goran Višnjić found out that it was my birthday. He recorded a happy birthday video message for me in his car, and then sent it to my fandom Instagram messages. I ignored it for about five hours due to being a target of harassment in the Timeless fandom because of who my favourite character and fictional relationship were, and was being bombarded by hate messages at the time. Anyway, in the video, he called me by my former fandom handle, but in his public post (after I had told him my real name), he mentioned me by name in a really sweet message.

About The Time I Met Mitch Pileggi...

When I met Mitch Pileggi in 2014 in San Antonio (at the Alamo City Comic Con), I had tweeted to him that I couldn't wait to meet him, and that I was on my way. So, as I'm walking up to his table, he's standing there, looks my way, and before I knew what was happening... he shouts out "CASSIE!", comes around his table and gives me this HUGE BEAR HUG. I can't remember what I said to him immediately after that, but when I meet celebrities I don't like to talk about their career or their work (unless they lead the conversation in that direction). I actually told him that there was something I had read about him on the internet back in the late 90s, and because I don't believe everything I read on the internet, I would only believe it if I had the chance to ask him myself, and so I did. And the answer is that yes, he once lived in Saudi Arabia, too. Finding that out led to a 20-maybe 30 minute conversation with him about living in the Middle East. I found out that while he didn't learn Arabic, that he did spend time in Turkey, and picked up some of the Turkish language <--- and if you know me, you know that for the next few minutes our conversation was about language learning. Mitch posed for a picture with my sister and I, and autographed a photo of him as Walter Skinner from The X-Files. Mitch, without question, is the coolest celebrity meet experience I've ever had.And if I ever get around to it, I'll snap photos of all my celebrity autographs to share on the site.
